Famed gaming firm seeks Chapter 7 bankruptcy

The Las Vegas-based firm, Lionel Sawyer & Collins, which had over 80 lawyers at its peak and which was famed for its gaming practice, has made the bankruptcy filing after losing 18 of its lawyers in January.

The firm has US$3.37m of debt and under $1m in assets. A former partner who left the firm last month, Richard Bryan, suggested that a problem had been the desire of clients to have lawyers who can work in multiple jurisdictions. Many small firms are currently springing up as boutique practices and the experience of Lionel Sawyer might encourage them to ensure they have a cross-border capability. Source: ABA
