US courier services giant FedEx has named long-time in-house counsel Gina Adams as its next general counsel, replacing Mark Allen who is set to retire at the end of this year.
Adams, who has been with the company for more than three decades, was previously corporate vice president for government and regulatory affairs. As GC, she will oversee all legal, security and government affairs matters globally. She became GC-elect on 1 September and will take over the GC role officially on 24 September.
Memphis, Tennessee-based FedEx provides global courier and package delivery services. The company employees more than half a million people and generated revenue of $87.7bn in the 2024 financial year.
Raj Subramaniam, FedEx CEO and president, said: “Gina has played a central role in addressing many of the most important issues facing our company and advocating for policies that support our customers and our industry. I know her expertise and insights will be invaluable as a member of the FedEx executive committee, and she will lead our world-class legal, government affairs and security teams in navigating complex environments as we transform FedEx for the future.”
Adams originally joined FedEx in 1992 as a managing attorney for international regulatory affairs, working her way up to her most recent role, which she took on in 2001. Prior to her time at FedEx, Adams spent nine years at the US Department of Transportation, the majority of them as an attorney advisor in the office of the general counsel.
Allen, meantime, steps down as GC after almost seven years in the job. He originally joined FedEx in 1982, working across a number of in-house roles, including as GC for the company’s Canadian business and GC for Asia Pacific and later the EMEA and Indian Subcontinent region.
He will move to a senior advisor position later this month until he leaves the company in December.
In other logistics and transport-related in-house moves, last September North American food distribution company US Foods appointed Medtronic lawyer Martha Ha as GC, replacing interim legal head Andrew Johnstone who had spent 10 months in the role.
