The controversial proposals would also see the state's courts move, as regards their administrative control, from the Supreme Court and into the treasury department. The bill was proposed by the Senate Finance Committee. Lawyers in the state are already beginning to register their concern. The existing judicial disciplinary body would be disbanded and the power to discipline judges would also be given to the state treasurer, through a judicial standards board which would be administered by the state treasurer.
