Former Dewey partners continue to boost hiring

Partner hiring by US law firms in London climbed to record levels last year as the collapse of New York's Dewey & LeBoeuf continued to drive recruitment, according to Legal Week magazine.

Ex-Dewey partners find new homes

A survey by the magazine revealed there were 141 lateral partner hires made by the City outposts of 47 US law firms last year, compared with 103 across the same firms in 2011.
The figures show that ex-Dewey lawyers accounted for more than a quarter of all lateral hiring in 2012. However, even without the Dewey boost, lateral hiring was still up by 13 per cent.

Lateral hiring

The largest flock of Dewey partners landed at Morgan Lewis & Bockius, which took on a seven-partner team led by Dewey's former London head Peter Sharp.
An equivalent US survey last week painted a similar picture, with US lateral hiring at its highest level in three years. A 9.7 per cent increase on the previous year’s recruitment figures was mainly attributed to the 280 Dewey partners seeking new roles.
