David Tresch was arrested and charged by federal authorities with one count of mail fraud after he acquired funds through a series of bogus invoices for services supposedly performed for an unidentified vendor, reports the Am Law Daily web site.

Internal investigation

In a statement, Mayer Brown confirmed that Mr Tresch worked for the firm until sacked on at the end of June following an internal investigation, the results of which Mayer Brown referred to the US attorney's office in Chicago.
The firm said in the statement: ‘[Mayer Brown] will continue to co-operate with the US attorney's office in this matter but will have no further comment at this time in deference to the on-going criminal investigation.’
In a statement, FBI investigators said the agency had seized approximately £210,000 in bank accounts controlled by Mr Tresch, as well as a luxury car, a van, and a camping trailer.

Sudden departure

Meanwhile, in Australia, Lawyers Weekly reports that the managing director of Gadens Lawyers in Melbourne and his son have both left the firm. Grant Dixon – who had headed the regional office of the Sydney-founded practice for nearly a decade – made a ‘sudden’ departure from the practice, according to the publication.
Melbourne-based partner Simon Theodore said: ‘The board and partners decided to part ways with Grant after 13 successful years. The firm is focused on continued success into the future and the change took place with that in mind.’
