French lawyers escape radical reform

The French legal profession appears to have been successful in its recent campaign to avoid losing its monopoly on providing legal services.

A package of reforms announced by the French economy minister has fallen short of ending the monopoly although it promises to make France a more efficient place to do business in. The minister, Emmanuel Macron, is due to give more details next month on a range of measures including transport, retail, easing curbs on employee share ownership and some aspects of the legal profession. He said: ‘Europe is in difficulty but France is in even more difficulty. We must increase our growth potential. France needs renovation and to open itself up.’ Source: Financial Times
