A Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer commercial disputes partner has left the firm after an internal investigation.  

In a statement, the firm said today: "We can confirm that following the conclusion of an internal investigation, it has been agreed with Tom Snelling that it’s in the interests of both him and the firm that he leave the partnership. His last day was 19 March (Thursday)."

No further details were given of the circumstances surrounding his departure.

Snelling, who was based in London, trained at Freshfields, becoming a partner in May 2010. He advised on cross-border disputes across a range of sectors and was a specialist in regulatory issues arising from Brexit.

He is the second disputes partner to have left the firm in recent months after an internal investigation.

Nick Williams left the firm on 11 December. 

And last October former Freshfields partner Ryan Beckwith was fined £35,000 with £200,000 costs for sexual misconduct after a seven-day hearing before the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal (SDT).

Beckwith, who had denied the allegations, resigned from the firm on the day of the ruling.

In its judgment, which was published last month, the tribunal said it had fined Beckwith – rather than imposing a more severe penalty – because  his behaviour was caused by a ‘lapse of judgement’ that was ‘highly unlikely to be repeated’.

Beckwith is appealing the decision in London’s High Court.
