A US nationwide survey conducted by the recruiting firm Major, Lindsey & Africa and GC Metrics revealed that typical medical-device companies pay around $423,000 a year for their general counsel whilst pharma companies pay in the region of $375,000 annually, reports Triangle Business Journal.
However, the report also found that energy and mining companies are paying even bigger bucks for general counsel - as are food and beverage companies. The average salary for general counsel across the board with 20 years experience is $300,000.
Not surprisingly, Not-For-Profit/Government, education and construction/engineering companies were at the bottom of the pay spectrum.
