Mr Greenwald is rejoining Fried Frank after a 19-year period in Goldman Sachs’ legal department which saw him named managing director in 1998 and a partner in 2000. At GS, he co-chaired the Firmwide Suitability Committee which was responsible for setting standards for clients and financial products. Mr Greenwald was also a member of and counsel to the Firmwide Client and Business Standards Committee.  He was also counsel to both the European Management Committee and the Growth Markets Operating Committee. At Fried Frank, Mr Greenwald was a specialist in mergers and acquisitions work as well as private equity transactions and his clients included Goldman Sachs and Forstmann Little.

New role

In his new role at Fried Frank, he will serve as Co-Chair until February 2015 alongside current Chairperson Valerie Ford Jacob, and will lead the New York-based firm as Chairman from March 2015 when Ms Jacob becomes Senior Partner.Goldman Sachs Executive Vice President and General Counsel Gregory K Palm said of Mr Greenwald: ‘We have benefited enormously from David’s good judgment and wise counsel, and I am very pleased that we will still be able to call on his advice in his new role at Fried Frank, a firm which has ably represented us for many years.’
