Halliburton lawyers lay off 23 after Deepwater success

Godwin Lewis, the Texas law firm acting for Halliburton on the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill, is laying off 17 lawyers and six staff after agreeing a US$1.1b settlement last month.

CEO of Godwin Lewis is reported as saying in the ABA Journal: ‘When you are handling major litigation, as we typically do at Godwin Lewis, someday that litigation is going to be over and adjustments will be made. We kept people here as long as we could … but as those needs subsided, we needed to make adjustments.’ The firm has 45 lawyers spread across three offices in Texas. Source: ABA
