Specialist litigation firm Hausfeld has announced its 2021 partner promotions, with two London-based lawyers making the cut.

Lucy Rigby and Luke Streatfield join the firm’s partner ranks, matching the number of partner promotions made in 2020, but with no US lawyers being elevated this year. Last year saw London and Philadelphia share one partner each, with Tom Bolster and Katie Beran being promoted.

Rigby, a specialist in collective redress and large-scale group actions, has continued to impress following her promotion to of counsel last year. She recently helped represent consumer group Which in the landmark UK Supreme Court Merricks case, among other large scale class actions.

Streatfield, meantime, is a competition litigation specialist who is engaged in the first standalone collective claim under the Consumer Rights Act, which was brought by lead claimant Justin Gutmann against three train operating companies for abuse of a dominant position.

Anthony Maton, Hausfeld’s global vice-chair, said: “With four collective actions filed in the last 12 months in the UK, and a raft of interesting cases during 2020, the London team has had a busy year.”

He added: “Despite the challenges that 2020 brought we are pleased to have been able to able to recognise and promote talent,” noting the firm’s lateral recruitment across all fee-earner levels, with 16 lawyers joining the firm.

This year’s partner promotions follow the equal gender split set last year, while two female partners were promoted in the firm’s five-partner promotions round in 2019 – which remains Hausfeld’s largest partner promotion cadre to date. The 2021 appointments bring the total percentage of female partners to 45%. 

Seven senior associate promotions were also announced, building on last year’s promotions of two of counsel, including Rigby. Two of this year’s seven were based in London, while the remaining five came from Germany: four in Berlin, and one in Düsseldorf. 

The promotions take the number of partners in the firm’s London office to 18, following the recruitment of former Trowers & Hamlins arbitration head Ned Beale earlier this month and the arrival of international product liability lawyer Sarah Moore from Leigh Day in October.

Last February, the firm also opened an Amsterdam office following its takeover of niche claimant firm Zippro Meijer.
