HK watchdog creates litigation team

The Securities and Futures Commission is creating an eight-person litigation team as a way of strengthening its working resources, particularly as relates to the increasing influence of China.

The move is one of several aimed at reinforcing the regulatory regime. The number of staff in the corporate investigations group is going up 10 per cent. Ashley Alder, chief executive, said: ‘We were concerned our investigations were taking too long and one of the bottlenecks was in our own in-house legal department. So actually we put in our budget for eight people to form a new litigation team because we’re handling more cases and they get more complex.’Mr Alder is also working to increase co-operation between regulators in the region.
