Allan Mayefsky, a named partner at Lexington Avenue headquartered Aronson Mayefsky & Sloan, will be joined by fellow partner Michael Mosberg to act for Ms Holmes, according to various press reports at the weekend.
Shrewd operator
The 33-year-old actress announced recently her intention to divorce the 50-year-old star of the Mission Impossible series and a raft of other Hollywood blockbusters. It is understood that she will seek financial support from Mr Cruise for their six-year-old daughter as well as sole custody of the child.
The Daily Mail newspaper in the UK described Mr Mayefsky – the current president of the New York chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers -- as ‘a shrewd operator who has a habit of airing the grievances of his clients in front of the media’.
Bitter break-ups
The newspaper goes on to point out that Mr Mayefsky was part of the legal team in the divorce of model Christie Brinkley and architect Peter Cook, which it describes as ‘one of the most bitter of Hollywood break-ups’.
Mr Cruise’s legal spokesman so far during the post-split coverage has been Bertram Fields, a long-standing entertainment sector partner at Los Angeles law firm Greenburg Glusker.
