How has the influence of general counsel changed since the onset of the global financial crisis?

Global general counsel answer our big question

Conventional wisdom has it that despite all the pain caused by the worst economic downturn in several generations, at least the hard times have boosted the influence and esteem of corporate in-house lawyers. And indeed, our survey of general counsel shows that about half agree that their position has improved – but only slightly. Just a fraction more than a fifth suggest that their influence has increased significantly. But then, perhaps GCs are broadly a modest lot that tend not to trumpet their success. And at least none had such low esteem as to think their influence had actually decreased.
