HSF launches gender diversity network

Anglo-Australian law firm Herbert Smith Freehills has initiated a network to promote diversity in sexuality and gender orientation within the firm and the wider community in Australia.

The scheme aims to address unconscious bias against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people.
HSF environment law consultant John Taberner and finance partner Amanda Wales are the Network’s leaders in Sydney. Mr Taberner told Lawyers Weekly: ‘People have prejudices they possibly don’t even know about.’

Inclusive leadership

Mr Taberner also revealed that several of HSF’s top clients already have LGBT networks and rank highly in the Australian Workplace Equality Index.
Danielle Kelly, the firm’s diversity manager, added that the firm is giving ‘diversity education’ to partners in order to explore cultural and religious issues. She said: ‘The overriding strategy is about inclusive leadership.’
