Lauren Stevens was indicted in 2010 on four counts of making false statements to the US Food and Drug Administration, only to be acquitted by a judge who said she ‘never should have been prosecuted’.
Monitoring
In a post on the Wall Street Journal’s blog, she says in-house lawyers should take ensure that all their work is above board, as the authorities will be monitoring them closely. ‘I know that sometimes it feels as though we have a target on our back,’ she said.
Ms Stevens gave three clear points on how best to avoid law suits. ‘When hiring an outside law firm, make sure they know all the facts—and also make sure the other parties know you have hired outside counsel…Take clear, accurate notes—and know that they could end up in court…Be very careful what you say during correspondence with adverse parties.’
