India strengthens legal powers of anti-corruption agency

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has won control of its legal arm which, until now, has been reporting to the Ministry of Law.

The CBI is India's main anti-corruption body. It recently arrested a Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax over alleged bribes. From now on the Directorate of Prosecution will report to the Director of the CBI. The CBI head will also be in charge of promotions, hirings and certain reports. The move means that the current Director of Prosecution will having fewer powers. Source: Business Standard
