The Times of India reports that Madras High Court Advocates Association (MHAA) treasurer R Sudha – who is best remembered for shielding Justice A C Arumuga Perumal Adityan from police in 2009 – said that the boycott was lawyers’ way of ‘reminding ourselves the unfinished job of bringing the guilty to the book’.
Court holiday
R C Paul Kanagaraj, who was president of the MHAA at that time, also said that police officers who were found guilty of ‘excesses’ but were subsequently given a reprieve should not be allowed off the hook so easily.
Senior lawyers have also called for the day to be marked as a court holiday to avoid the loss of a working day.
