The Times of India reports that a central factor to the hiring bonanza is a boom in US visa misuse law suits. US immigration authorities have launched a visa compliance audit for multinational companies – the provisions of which are retrospective for seven years – adding further pressure on Indian companies.

Compliance critical

Sajai Singh, senior partner at law firm J Sagar Associates, said the issue of compliance is critical in the US. ‘Be it Foreign Corrupt Practices Act or export control regulations, or the US Patriot Act or Money Laundering Act, the US is very strict. Many of our clients are addressing compliance issues,’ he said.
With many IT companies deriving more than 60 per cent of their revenues from the US, Murali Kakolu -- global head of immigration in HCL Technologies – told the newspaper that most companies are beefing up their immigration departments by recruiting specialist lawyers as well as senior immigration experts to ensure their processes are done legitimately.
