Indian regulator demands answers from the Big Four

The Big Four audit firms have three weeks to respond to a complaint from local lawyers accusing them of practising law in India.

Indian law firms are continuing to protect their turf after a complaint was lodged with the Bar Council of India complaining about the operations of the Big Four audit firms in India. KPMG, PwC, Deloitte and EY were contacted by the Bar Council of India after complaints from a local lawyer that they were engaged in the 'unauthorised practice of law'.    

Complaint

The complaint by Lalit Bhasin, President of the Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF), which represents 100 law firms in the country, accused the firms of employing law graduates and providing legal advice as well as drafting agreeements for clients without being registered with the Bar Council of India. The firms have until 7 August to respond. PwC has said it does not own or operate a law firm in India. Source: The Hindu Business Line
