Mr Srinivasan - described by President Barack Obama as a ‘trailblazer’ – is currently the principal deputy solicitor general of the US.
According to One India, Mr Srinivasan is close to being confirmed to the prestigious US Court of Appeals for the American capital with little opposition from Republican senators.
Republican Orrin Hatch repeatedly said he was ‘impressed’ with Mr Srinivasan at the Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday, adding that he would vote for him even as he pressed the nominee on whether he would be able to step away from his current role as an advocate and be impartial as a judge.

Moderate approach

At the hearing, 45-year-old Mr Srinivasan outlined his traditionally moderate approach to the law, stating that ‘open-mindedness and objectivity,’ would be key to his ‘case-by-case approach’.
If confirmed, Mr Srinivasan - who succeeded another Indian American, Neal Kumar Katyal, in August 2011 in his current job - will become the third South Asian named to any federal judgeship.
