IP counsel criticise emerging markets for failure on IP protection

IP counsel have slammed the efforts of governments in emerging markets to protect companies against counterfeiting.

The research by Consero Group found that all of the IP counsel respondents believed that there was a complete failure by growth market governments to protect US corporations although one in two thought that the last 12 months had seen some improvement. 

Government protection lacking

The ‘2013 Chief IP Counsel Data Survey’, which polled Fortune 1000 companies,  also found that 90 per cent also believed that the US government was not doing enough to protect US corporations against patent trolls particularly as three in four Chief IP Counsel responsents say they are  litigating against patent trolls or expect to be in the next 12 months. However, nearly half of those surveyed thought that the US government was performing better on protection of copyright and trademark infringement. Meanwhile 41 per cent believe their companies do not sufficiently protect against online piracy and data security.
