Irish Ombudsman under legal threats

The Financial Services Ombudsman in Dublin is warning that the position of his office is facing 'serious threat' from rulings which could force him to accept oral hearings on many more cases.

Bill Prasifka also said that some decisions from the courts put in question whether or not the Ombudsman function should be allowed to exist. A big increase in mortgage cases is simultaneously leading to pressure on the Ombudsman, from the courts, to establish some of the facts in these cases through oral hearings.
