Journalist not deemed honest enough to practise law

The California Supreme Court has refused to allow a disgraced journalist to join the state bar because of a 'lack of integrity and forthrightness'.

Stephen Glass was exposed 15 years ago for making up quotes, sources and events in articles he wrote for The New Republic. The California Supreme Court decided that he should not be admitted to the California State Bar because he had not totally changed his ways. Rejecting his application, the court said: 'We find it particularly disturbing that at the hearing Glass persisted in claiming that he had made a good faith effort to work with the magazines that published his works.'
