Judge attacks BP's legal strategy on oil leak

Judge Carl Barbier, presiding over the BP 2010 Deepwater Blue case, has criticised the business's current strategy and accused its lawyers of taking 'deeply disappointing' actions.

Judge Barbier said that BP has made a 'startling' change in its approach. BP is trying to keep a lid on the compensation it pays and has accused the team in charge of awarding compensation of being too loose in its approach. BP had made 'unwarranted' charges against Patrick Juneau, the court-appointed head of the team, said Judge Barbier. BP had requested an injunction this month, asking for excessive payments to be blocked. This has just been turned down by Judge Barbier who said that BP's 'new position . . . [was] at odds with the settlement agreement’s language and BP’s prior statements and submissions'.
