Kirby McInerney criticised in Brent crude case

Law firms jockeying for position to win the position of lead counsel in the Brent crude case in New York have poured cold water on attempts by Kirby McInerney to lead the claimants' case.

Firms argue against Kirby McInerney taking the main role in the Brent crude case Hank Shiffman

The Manhattan federal court case revolves around claims that BP, Statoil and other companies have manipulated the price of Brent crude oil for more than 10 years. It brings together numerous class actions. Kirby McInerney is handling several of these and has asked US District Judge Andrew L Carter Jr to appoint it as lead counsel, the firm which will play the main co-ordination role on the claimant side. But three law firms have filed papers together saying that the firm 'suffers from an experience deficit' in this area. The firms - Lovell Stewart Halebian Jacobson LLP; Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi LLP; and Danneberg Cohen & Hart PC - want to be named as lead counsel instead, with Lovell Stewart taking the chair.
