Law firm sets up in Bermuda tax haven

The Canadian 380-lawyer firm Bennett Jones is to work in association with a firm of the same name set up in Bermuda by a former senior commercial partner of the Canadian practice.

Explaining the advantages of the new set-up, Hugh MacKinnon, chair and CEO of Bennett Jones in Canada, said: 'Bermuda is of rapidly growing interest to our international clients who wish to operate in, and through, a highly sophisticated commercial and legal environment. Bermuda is the premier jurisdiction for those investments.' 

America's Cup yacht race

The managing principle of Bennett Jones in Bermuda is Dominic Card who left the Canadian practice to set up Bennett Jones [Bermuda] Ltd 'a few months ago'. Mr Card, a resident of Bermuda, returned from Canada to the island to look after 'several large commercial mandates' and also to act as legal counsel to the island's successful bid for the America's Cup yacht race in 2017.
