Even though the incidence of file-sharing settlement demands has fallen 80% from its 2010 peak, there remain concerns that some organisations are operating like ‘copyright trolls’ rather than simply wanting to protect their intellectual property from abuse. The operation of trolls is well-known in the US, but far less well-known in Germany.
Legislation
The figures were collected by Christian Solmecke of law firm Wilde Beuger Solmecke. He does not believe that new laws introduced in October, the Improper Business Practices Act, have had much of an effect. He said: ‘The new rules do not go far enough.
