Law lags behind banking in top female appointments

The legal profession is worse than banks when it comes to promoting women.

Women lawyers lag nearly ten oer cent  behind banks in the UK - with only 19 per cent  of partners being female in the UK top 20, compared to 28 per cent  of senior bankers at the Lloyds Banking Group. The statistics, based on research at The Lawyer, are published in The Financial Times. Meanwhile, in the US, only four per cent of the top 200 law firms have a female managing partner in place, according to research from the US National Association of Women Lawyers.

But there are some signs that the situation could be changing. Penelope Warne has just been appointed senior partner at the London HQ of CMS Cameron McKenna. In May, Sonya Leydecker is to take over as chief executive of Herbert Smith Freehills. Source: Financial Times
