The money – the biggest grant ever to a European law school -- will be distributed to 80 law students, allowing a third of all undergraduates to receive some form of scholarship, the London Evening Standard newspaper reports.
Exemplary students
The law school has been renamed after Mr Poon, who has designated 15 of the scholarships to be granted to students from China or his native Hong Kong. Some 25 students will receive full funding, and 50 will be given £18,000 over three years. Five postgraduate students will receive £90,000 intended for independent legal research projects.
‘My donation and the establishment of these scholarships is part of the ambition I share with the distinguished law school at King’s College London to set new standards in legal education and research,’ said Mr Poon. ‘The scholarships will help to enable exemplary students with academic agility and unlimited ambition to develop into future global leaders in all areas of law, business, education and civil society.’
