Gwyn Lewis, aka Merlin the Magician, is advising Manchester City’s Argentine striker Carlos Tevez and has also worked with former players Joey Barton, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Danny Mills.
Having read his profile on Manchester-based Burton Copeland’s web site, many criticised Mr Lewis for his claims and questioned the ethics in place at the firm, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Oliver Holt, chief sports writer for the Daily Mirror, tweeted: ‘That testimonial for the lawyer who claims he is called Merlin the Magician by Man City makes me want to puke.’
However, Mr Lewis said that when a case ‘disappears’ it means it has been dealt with ‘satisfactorily’, adding that he believed he was given the Merlin nickname as ‘some footballers did not understand the workings of the law’.
Mr Lewis is expected to defend Mr Tevez in April after the striker was charged with driving while disqualified and uninsured. Mr Tevez, who was banned from driving in January, could face up to six months in prison if he is found guilty.
