Lawyer sentenced for delivering Mafia death threat

An Italian lawyer has been given a one-year suspended prison sentence for reading out a death threat in court to the author Roberto Saviano.

Naples

The sentence handed down to the lawyer, Michele Santonastaso, was welcomed by the author who has had to live in hiding since he published an expose of the mafia in Naples in 2006. Speaking of the leaders of the Casalesi clan, Mr Saviano said: ‘They are not unbeatable, they are not invincible and this ruling proves it. The Casalesi are paper tigers because they hid behind a lawyer.’ Source: Financial Times
