Lawyers are regularly asked about moving assets across borders

Well over four in ten private client lawyers are being asked for advice on whether millionaire clients should be shifting the geographical location of their investments.

Research carried out in the  'Wealth Report 2013', sponsored by Global Legal Post in association with Boodle Hatfield, shows that 44 per cent of lawyers in this group are being asked about the issue by clients. A third (29.2 per cent) of clients are considering moving their assets back to their home jurisdiction. Concern about the issue reflects the rapidity with which states - particularly Switzerland - are changing their tax and secrecy laws and relations with other states.

However, whether this translates into the actual movement of assets is a separate issue. Simon Rylatt, Boodle Hatfield partner, says: 'I'm not aware of that many people who have moved their accounts.'
