Lawyers want more flexible working

About 88 per cent of lawyers working in law firm want their employers to be more open to flexible working, according to a survey by law firm Fletcher Day.

The survey also found that 66 per cent of lawyers in law firms believe their their non-lawyer friends and contacts have more flexible working conditions. Lawyers appear nervous about taking up flexible working as three out of four of them fear that to do so 'could potentially affect career progression in the future'. Jude Fletcher, senior partner of Fletcher Day, said: 'There is a dissonance between skilled individuals’ hunger to gain better control over their working patterns, and the ability of law firms to offer its staff that measure of control – in order to win their loyalty, retain their industry skills, and respect their professional and commercial judgement.'
