SCOTUSblog, which refers to the Supreme Court of the US in its initials, is published by Tom Goldstein. He is a highly visible figure in legal commentary in the US, appearing on MSNBC, being regularly quoted in the press, as well as knowing the judges, writing the blog and arguing some cases in the court. His multiple roles have made it difficult to classify him simply as a commentator. However, USA Today said that the 'blog is so popular among Supreme Court watchers that it is now helping set the agenda for coverage of the institution'. Mr Goldstein started the blog as a marketing device for the law firm, Goldstein, he ran with his wife. But it was more successful as a stand-alone blog. Its Twitter account alone has 144,000 followers. Now, he is asking for press accreditation. He said: 'We ought to be given the same benefits and be subject to the same restrictions as members of the press corps,' according to USA Today.
