Legal fees mount up in Detroit City

The bankrupt city of Detroit is proving rich pickings for law firms involved in dealing with the crisis.

US firm Miller Cranfield Paddock and Stone will receive legal fees in the region of $2 million from the bankrupt City of Detroit. The Michigan firm, which has a long-standing relationship with the city, initially worked on financial restructuring but its contract has been extended to deal with the bankruptcy. The total fee also includes a labour agreement, according to The Am Law Daily, which is capped at $750,000. Jones Day, as lead bankruptcy law firm for Detroit, has a contract worth $3.35 million.
