Legendary criminal lawyer Greenspan dies in Arizona

Eddie Greenspan, who represented media baron Conrad Black and German financier Karlheinz Schreiber among other well-known clients, has died in his family holiday home in Phoenix at the age of 70.

He came from a great legal family - with his brother Brian also well-known as a leading criminal lawyer and his sister Rosann now in the role of executive director at the Center for the Study of Law and Society at UC Berkeley in California. His daughter Julianna is also a partner in the Toronto law firm where he was senior parter, Greenspan Partners. 

Almost shy

His brother Brian told 800 mourners at the Beth Torah Synagogue: 'Despite his apparent comfort and ease with the smell of the greasepaint and the roar of the crowd, he was intensely private, in some ways almost shy.' Source: The Star
