ABC News reports that Robert Muse, a partner at Washington firm Stein Mitchell Muse & Cipollone, will represent Ms Broadwell. So far, no charges have been brought against Ms Broadwell, and Mr Muse is yet to speak publically on the issue.
Sexual liaison
The firm covers several practices, including white collar criminal defence, congressional investigations and whistle blower actions. The ABC report also cites high profile former clients including former Senator Bob Packwood and Ambassador Lewis Tambs, as well as Ms Lewinsky, who as a 22-year-old White House intern in the mid-1990s had a sexual liaison with then-US president Bill Clinton.
According to the firm’s web site, Mr Muse was a staff attorney with the Senate Watergate Committee from 1973-74, and has also served as counsel in ‘various espionage cases and litigation involving classified information.’
Congress in the dark
Meanwhile, scrutiny of Attorney General Eric Holder is prompting discussions about the sharing of investigative information between high-level administration officials, reports The National Law Journal.
Congressional intelligence committee members are reportedly concerned over how little they knew of the Petraeus scandal and former Capitol Hill counsel and assistant attorney general Robert Raben – founder of Washington lobbying and public affairs firm The Raben Group -- said he expected more congressional oversight inquiries into how the issue was handled.
Former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales – now a counsel at Nashville law firm Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis – said he is concerned about discussions that might have occurred between Mr Holder and the White House.
If the FBI reached a preliminary conclusion that the director of the CIA was having an affair, ‘that’s the kind of information I would have advised the president about,’ said Mr Gonzales.
