The Deccan Chronicle reports that the Madras high court advocates’ association (MHAA) passed a resolution today to follow up on a petition over the need for transparency in the appointment process.
MHAA president G Mohanakrishnan claimed the legal community was ‘deeply distressed’ over the list, which allegedly ‘falls far short of the standards set out in the various judgments of the Supreme Court’.
The association added that it appeared those on the list had been selected on ‘extraneous criteria’, such as caste, religion, office affiliations and political considerations.
