The new digital services group brings together a multi-disciplinary tech team of 17 digital services professionals, integrating lawyers, AI software developers, legal solutions consultants and architects, legal project managers, document automation specialists and business analysts.
Law “not immune”
Operating across a range of industries and sectors. the firm says the establishment of the digital services group has been driven by significant advances in legaltech, and in response to the evolving needs of the firm’s clients in areas of large-volume legal work, enhanced legal process efficiency, and demand for bespoke new digital products in the delivery of legal solutions. The group aims to leverage advanced digital technology and agile processes to deliver on complex, large scale legal solutions. This includes project-managing complex, cross-border due diligence processes using machine learning contract analysis software, managing one of the largest eDiscovery projects in Ireland, and developing regulatory compliance software. Commenting on the launch of the new group, Tom Connor, head of the Matheson digital services group stated “Technology continues to disrupt business models and digital has changed everything - the legal sector is not immune. The use of current and emerging technologies such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence and intelligent automation are transforming the legal sector - and the ways in which we can now deliver legal services.”
Digital integration
The new service offering operates across three divisions: Client Solutions, Legal Process Optimisation and Digital Innovation. Mr Connor explained, “The continued integration of digital into our core legal business is an important strategic development for the firm - as it allows us to respond to market demand for technology-enabled solutions. In an increasingly competitive legal market, establishing the new group also provides us with the right talent, diverse expertise and the platform in order to be at the fore of the new digital legal economy moving forward.” Michael Jackson, Matheson’s managing partner, the establishment of the group reflects both changing client needs and the commitment to a collaborative approach that is client-focused, adding “We are confident that by combining our digital services offering with our traditional services and our deep understanding of our clients’ businesses, we will continue to be the law firm of choice for internationally focused companies and financial institutions doing business in and from Ireland.”
