Ogletree Deakins is one of the largest US labour and employment law firms representing management. The firm has previously opened offices in Berlin, Germany and London. The Mexico City office will be led by Pietro Straulino-Rodriguez who served as the co-head of the Sanchex Devanny's Labour, Social Security and Immigration practice group. Straulino-Rodriguez will be joined by his team from Sánchez Devanny which includes three associates and a law clerk. The Mexico City office is expected to grow quickly.
International practice
Previously, Straulino-Rodriguez worked in the legal and government relations department of a global automobile manufacturer. His practice is comprised of servicing international clients with litigation, counseling, and union negotiation matters. He has advised several national and international companies on compliance with Mexican laws related to a myriad of matters, including individual work contracts, collective bargaining agreements, global policies, employment manuals, and codes of ethics and conduct. Additionally,Mr Straulino-Rodriguez has participated in complex negotiations with labour unions on revising collective labor contracts. 'We are very pleased to expand our ability to service employers’ international needs, and Mexico City was the logical next step for us after Berlin and London,' said Kim Ebert, managing shareholder of Ogletree Deakins. 'Pietro is a highly regarded lawyer who embodies our client service culture, and we are very excited to have him and his team of talented legal professionals join our firm.'
Sweeping new laws
'In-house counsel require efficiency and practical, business-oriented solutions to complex legal issues,' said Mr Straulino-Rodriguez. 'Mexico has passed sweeping new laws to create a more competitive business climate, and by opening in Mexico City we are able to provide legal resources to employers looking to do business here.' In addition to his practice, Straulino-Rodriguez is a professor of labour law at the Escuela Libre de Derecho.
