Mexico is to give its telecommunications regulator major new powers to police the largest telecommunications companies and TV boradcasters. In a draft bill, which will threaten companies with control over the marketplace, companies will have to answer to the regulator on a range of issues including prices and discounts, Reuters reports. The Federal Institute for Telecommunications (IFT) will be able to force companies to sell assets as well as sharing networks and infrastructure. Companies would also have to gain approval every year for interconnection and infrastructure-sharing terms. The draft is expected to go to Congress shortly. Source: Reuters
