Miranda Alliance adds Paris member

The move makes Miranda the first leading Portuguese firm to establish a local presence in France.

Miranda welcomes a Paris law firm to its alliance Ioan Panaite

Miranda Alliance has extended its reach to France by linking up with Paris law firm Cabinet Sophie da Cunha. Cabinet Sophie da Cunha will not advise on French law issues but will facilitate the flow of international investment into Francophone and Portuguese-speaking Africa and Asia. The firm, which is located on the Champs-Élysées, was set up by Sophie Da Cunha who was previously a lawyer at Simmons & Simmons in Paris and Jeantet Associés. Rui Amendoeira, Managing Partner of Miranda, says of the new addition: 'Integrating a Paris member into the Miranda Alliance continues our commitment to building greater proximity to our clients in their home jurisdictions. Recent years have seen us extend the reach of the Miranda Alliance, particularly across Francophone Africa, and the result has been a growing number of French businesses asking us to assist them as they move into the continent.’

Gateway to Francophone Africa

He added: ‘In London we do not practice English law, in Houston we do not practice US law and in Paris we have no plans to focus on French law. The expansion of the Miranda Alliance to include a Paris member is a direct response to the demand we are experiencing from established and new clients for us to help them extend their own reach…Paris is a major investment gateway to Francophone Africa where our clients are increasingly comfortable relying on Miranda lawyers as their own eyes and ears on the ground. The new opening means that we can bridge the gap between local French demand and local African and Emerging Markets expertise.'

Four continents

The Miranda Alliance was founded by Miranda (Miranda Correia Amendoeira) one of Portugal’s largest firms. With the addition of Cabinet Sophie da Cunha the Alliance now extends across four continents and 17 countries. In Africa the Alliance spans ten jurisdictions: Angola, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Republic of the Congo and São Tomé and Príncipe.  Miranda Alliance is, in addition, present in Brazil, Macau and Timor-Leste.
