Namibia suffers court chaos

There is such a shortage of lawyers in Namibia that many criminal defendants stay in police cells for years, waiting for a lawyer to assist them, according to an official.

Windhoek suffers from insufficient amount of lawyers Grobler du Preez

Lawyers in the capital of Windhoek appear to be so busy that they get little time to visit regional courts. An official at the Otjiwarongo Magistrates’ Court told Informante: 'Many of the accused are assigned lawyers from Windhoek law firms, and those lawyers don’t get time to come to regional courts, because they are busy with their business in Windhoek. The few law firms we have here are overcrowded by those who can afford their services. Many people are staying in the police cells for years, just because legal representatives assigned to them are not making the effort to come listen to their clients here.' More information from Informante.
