New York State Senator Alessandra Biaggi is the latest high-profile speaker added to the agenda ahead of the Luxury Law Summit Americas at the start of next month.
Senator Biaggi is one of the panelists on the ‘Luxury, Politics and Sustainability’ session, which will look at fashion-related legislation such as the FABRIC Act and the Garment Workers Protection Act, as well as New York’s Fashion Act, which is sponsored by Biaggi and would require fashion retailers and manufacturers with global revenues of at least $100m to disclose their environmental and social policies.
Joining her on the panel are Senator Kirsten Gillibrand’s communications director Lizzie Landau, New York Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney’s press secretary Adrien Lesser and Mara Hoffman’s vice president of sustainability, product and business strategy Dana Davis. Jochmans Consulting president and PoliticallyinFashion founder Hilary Jochmans will moderate the session.
US lawyers who attend the event will be awarded up to six CLE points.

Other panel sessions include ‘New Issues in the World of Luxury Jewelry’ and what the future holds for the jewelry market from a sales, design, sustainability and compliance perspective. Speakers include CEO and GC of Jewelers Vigilance Committee Tiffany Stevens, David Yurman GC David Eshmoili, Platinum Guild International USA president Jenny Luker and the Gemological Institute of America's (GIA's) head of sustainability Johanna Levy.
In addition to the panel sessions, there are also a number of sponsored workshops taking place throughout the day. Following the ‘Luxury, Politics and Sustainability’ session, K&L Gates partner Susan Kayser is hosting a workshop on the same theme, looking at the role fashion should play in politics and how fashion has shaped political issues. Topics on the agenda include fashion’s influence on diplomacy and sustainability opportunities such as vegan leather and other non-animal materials.
The summit will conclude with a book launch, the Luxury Law Awards and a fashion show.
