New York traffic lawyers hit by slump in arrests

Traffic lawyers in New York - a city which usually hands out US$10m a week in parking fines - have been hit by a sudden halving in the level of activity since the start of January.

There is speculation that the fall could be due to an unofficial go-slow by New York police who are said to view mayor Bill de Blasio's response as somewhat negative in his attitude to them.

Drop in calls

New York traffic lawyer Matthew Weiss said: 'We're seeing less phone calls, less emails, less faxes from people with tickets that are newly issued. It started at the beginning of the year.' Another lawyer, Isaac Abraham, said: 'I've definitely noticed a drop in calls.' The number of arrests fell from 5,448 to 2,401 in the week that finished on Sunday, 4 January, according to the New York Police Department. Soruce: Yahoo News
