The feel-good factor following the success of the London 2012 Games is set to continue for some British lawyers, with the legal head of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Locog) suggesting those involved will be in hot demand.
Terry Miller, the organising body’s general counsel, announced she has no plans to continue on to Rio in 2016, and added that in-house roles will be a major attraction to Locog lawyers, reports The Lawyer newspaper from the UK capital.
Close to the business
‘A lot of people are still looking to see what is out there. At the moment nobody is planning to move to Brazil full-time, but some of the team may do some consultancy work with the Rio organisers,’ said Ms Miller. ‘The big interest in the team is moving on to another in-house position. It can be hard to go back to private practice because if they enjoy the closeness to the business, it is difficult to give that up.’
From the final Locog legal department of 32, around a third was secondees from London magic circle law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, which was the ‘official legal services provider’ to the games. They have now returned to the firm.
