Preface: Fashion Law Comparative Guide 2024

Given the success of the First Edition, this revised Edition of the Law Over Borders Fashion Law Comparative Guide provides fashion industry professionals — both private practice law firm attorneys and in-house legal counsels — with in-depth updates on the issues previously covered, additional jurisdictions, and valuable new insights on “legal hot topics” facing the fashion industry.

Due to economic, geopolitical and environmental challenges the world is facing right now, according to the BoF-McKinsey State of Fashion 2024 Executive Survey, the word most often mentioned by executives was ‘uncertainty’. However, the fashion industry has never been shaken when facing challenges, always finding creative and innovative new solutions to ensure that business thrives.

In this Second Edition, our authors — from all over the world — have delved further into the impact of evolving issues regarding the fashion industry; from increasingly pervasive digitization, growing environmental awareness and the centrality of consumers, to the increasing regulatory environment around advertising, particularly as a consequence of the surprisingly significant power harnessed by fashion influencers. Along with the more traditional legal topics, these new ‘hot’ issues have also been addressed with the same practical and factually-based approach that distinguished the First Edition as a relevant and accessible resource.
