The Premier League – which also includes two teams from Wales – is seeking a court order to force internet service providers (ISPs) to cut access to Swedish website FirstRow1.eu, reports the BBC.
'Legitimate services'
The report adds that none of the ISPs are expected to challenge the first-of-its-kind action.
The move follows similar action taking in the music industry, which has successfully blocked some of the most popular pirate websites such as the Pirate Bay.
Jim Killock, of the Open Rights Group, expressed concern that ‘very legitimate services’ may be blocked under the orders. He said: ‘Our main concern here is that these orders should be considered slowly, and they should be subject to much more public review.’
