Quinn Emanuel steals arbitration co-head from Allen & Overy

Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan has picked up yet another heavyweight from Allen & Overy's arbitration practice.

A&O global arbitration co-head Michael Young has confirmed that he is joining Quinn Emanuel’s own arbitration practice in Paris. Mr Young joined A&O from Herbert Smith Freehills in 2011 and specialises in international arbitration within the chemical, energy and natural resources sectors.

Following Jagusch

The high-profile hire comes four years after Quinn Emanuel picked up another former A&O arbitration practice head, Stephen Jagusch, as its own international arbitration boss. Also switching to Quinn from A&O in 2012 were arbitration partner Anthony Sinclair and antitrust litigation partner Nadine Herrman, the latter of whom helped launch Quinn’s Hamburg office.

Bulking up in Paris

News of Mr Young’s hire comes just days after Quinn Emanuel confirmed the hire of former Herbert Smith Freehills Paris-based disputes head Isabelle Michou. Described by Quinn Emanuel managing partner John Quinn as ‘one of the top arbitration advocates in Europe’, Ms Michou spent 18 years at HSF before making the switch this week. ‘Our international arbitration practice is growing quickly, particularly in Paris,’ said Mr Quinn. ‘[Ms Michou] will provide more depth to an already deep branch.’
